Proper Wheelchair Cushion Selection
Comfort Style Cushions:
- Foam or Gel based. Is light and varies widely in stiffness and
density. Proper stiffness, density and resilience help ensure adequate
support and an effective lifespan. This provides general comfort when
seated.
Prevention Cushion: -
For at risk clients. Considered for prevention of skin irritation and
assist with comfort. This style can be gel or air filled or a
combination of both. In air cushions there is typically a thinner cell
height, allowing for a more comfortable feel.
Treatment/Prevention Cushion:
If you have a history of pressure sores, or areas that are showing
redness or signs of too much pressure, it is critical you choose a
cushion that provides the maximize protection and healing support. We
typically recommend an Air cushion when there is a very high risk of
skin sores, or active pressure sores.
